Who is in it

Nationality is not the test

While a number of member companies do business with Britain or have British operations, companies do not have to be British to join. A large number of Hong Kong, Chinese and international companies sit within the membership.

The British Chamber of Commerce is one of Hong Kong’s largest and most active international business organisations, representing a broad span of British, Hong Kong and international companies doing business in, with, or through Hong Kong.

The chamber invites companies of all nationalities to join, and actively encourages them to support the inclusion of more young professionals and of professionals from diverse backgrounds.

Governance

Who holds the funds

The business and funds of the chamber are governed by the General Committee. It meets six times a year and consists of board directors elected at the Chamber Annual General Meeting in June each year.

The General Committee is also attended by ex-officio members from the British Consulate-General and the British Council, by co-opted members, and by all the chairs of the chamber’s sub-committees.

Advocacy

Policy work on members' behalf

The chamber works with business organisations and government bodies on behalf of its members, to strengthen Hong Kong’s standing as an international business centre. Its committees drive and inform its policy positions and the policy work it carries out as a chamber.

Every summer the chamber releases its Policy Address Submission for the Chief Executive and the administration, and on behalf of the wider membership it submits yearly pre-budget recommendations to the Financial Secretary. It also writes and publishes responses to consultation papers, white papers and letters to the government.
